School Programs

Early Learning (Kindergarten)

Orientation/Pre-Kinder sessions for new children entering school will be held the year before they commence Kindergarten.
At the beginning of the year, the student intake is staggered to enable small groups of students to receive more individualised attention.
We request that students are collected on time from the terrace outside the rooms, as they become distressed if they are kept waiting for too long. Please notify the teacher if you are delayed or if someone else is picking up your child. Parents, please use the parent car park at the rear of the school.
All groups break for a snack - a drink and a piece of fruit. We like to encourage children to drink water. (No sweets or chips please).
Children will need a smock. Drink containers and all clothing must be clearly named.

Health & Wellbeing

Lauderdale Primary School is a health promoting school. We believe that students will learn more effectively, perform at their best and have a greater chance of fulfilling their potential if they feel healthy, happy and supported. We would encourage all parents to provide their children with healthy and sustaining morning tea and lunch (no lollies, chips or fizzy drinks).  We ask that each child has a water bottle for re-hydration throughout the day and brings along a piece of fruit or a vegetable to eat in the Fruit Break that occurs in every classroom every day. The school has specialist Physical Education classes. All Prep-Grade 6 classes participate in a whole school Fitness Fun Program. Students from Years 3, 4 and 5 participate in a Swimming and Water Safety Program for two weeks during the year.  Currently our Grade 2 students have a week of Water Orientation.  These sessions are conducted by qualified swim instructors. All Year 3-6 students participate in athletics, cross-country and swimming carnivals. School teams are selected to compete in SPSSA inter-school carnivals.

KidsMatter/Move Well, Eat Well

Lauderdale Primary School is proud to be a KidsMatter school. KidsMatter is a National initiative that addresses students mental health, social and emotional wellbeing. We have a  whole school Social and Emotional Learning program which has a different focus approximately every 3 weeks. Lauderdale Primary School is an accredited Move Well, Eat Well school and has GOLD status with the Tasmanian School Canteen Association. We focus on student health and wellbeing to ensure students are healthy, happy and ready to learn.

At Lauderdale Primary School we have a Garden Buddy Program, providing hands on gardening experience for all children. Parents are welcome to visit the garden with your children.

Information Communications Technology (ICT)

Lauderdale Primary School is a leader in the use of computers as tools for teaching and learning, and for accessing information.  A fully ICT equipped computer laboratory is available for student use.
The use of Information Communication Technology is a key feature of our student learning programs. The school’s network consists of over two hundred ICT devices.

The Arts

The school provides high quality music and art classes run by qualified specialist teachers.  The quality of student artwork is a feature of our school.

The Library is very well stocked with fiction, non-fiction and reference texts.
The automated borrowing system is student friendly. Parents are particularly welcome to use these resources. There is a selection of books on parenting and the growth and development of children.  This includes extensive resources for children from birth to four years of age.
Parents are welcome to assist children with their selection of books and read to them in the Library. We encourage all children to read widely, borrow regularly and to enjoy their reading.
